Silver Alloy DVD-9 Production
DVDs (Digital Versatile Discs) come in several formats, the most common ones include DVD-5, DVD-10, and DVD-9.

The DVD-5 format disc holds about 4.7GB of information. It is a single sided, single layer format which is read with a laser from one side of the disc.

The DVD-10 format disc holds about 9.4GB of information. It is a double sided, single layer format - each layer is read from one side. The disc must be flipped in the DVD player in order to access the other side.

The DVD-9 format disc holds about 8.5GB of information. It is a single sided dual layer format, both layers are read with a laser from the same side of the disc. This format has significant advantages over the DVD-5 and DVD-10 formats. It has roughly the same capacity as a DVD-10 but all the information on the disc can be accessed without flipping the disc. The dual layers of the DVD-9 are also called Layer 0 (L0) and Layer 1 (L1). The L0 is semi-reflective; the laser partially passes through the layer to read L1, it is also partially reflected for the laser beam read the signal contained in L0. Most prerecorded DVDs sold today are DVD-9 format. Learn more about DVD-9.
